Primary Cytomegalovirus Infection Causing Guillain-Barré Syndrome in a Living Renal Allograft Recipient

چکیده
Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS) is a common acute autoimmune polyneuropathy in adults. There have been few reported cases of Guillain-Barré Syndrome associated with active cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection in renal transplant recipients. Here we present a case of active CMV viremia inducing Guillain-Barré Syndrome in a renal transplant recipient. We discuss the treatment regimen utilized. Furthermore, we performed a review of the literature and discuss the cases of CMV induced GBS in renal transplant recipients.

Pleocytosis and immunoglobulin changes in cerebrospinal fluid and herpesvirus serology in patients with Guillain-Barré syndrome.
In a follow-up study of 24 patients with Guillain-Barré syndrome, 55% developed a cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) mononuclear pleocytosis, which persisted for 4 months or more. Raised index values of CSF-immunoglobulin G (IgG), CSF-IgA, and CSF-IgM, indicating synthesis of the immunoglobulin in question in the central nervous system, were found in 63, 35, and 25%, respectively. Agarose gel eletrophor...
متن کاملCytomegalovirus infections and anti-GM2 antibodies in Guillain-Barré syndrome.
To investigate whether antecedent cytomegalovirus (CMV) infections in patients with Guillain-Barré syndrome are associated with the presence of specific antiganglioside antibodies, acute phase serum samples from 130 patients with Guillain-Barré syndrome and 200 controls were tested. Anti-GM2 IgM antibodies were found more often in patients with Guillain-Barré syndrome with CMV infection (22%) t...
متن کاملGuillain–Barré syndrome complicating dengue fever: Two case reports
Guillain-Barré syndrome is a rare neurological manifestation associated with dengue infection. More common antecedent infections include Campylobacter jejuni and Cytomegalovirus infection. Here, we report two cases of Guillain-Barré syndrome complicating dengue infection.
متن کاملCytomegalovirus infection and the Guillain-Barré syndrome.
A fatal case is described of the Guillain-Barré syndrome due to cytomegalovirus infection, which was associated with hepatitis, myocarditis and viral pneumonia. Previous cases, which have usually run a benign course, are reviewed. Attention is drawn to the possible adverse effect of steroid therapy.
متن کاملSimultaneous human herpesvirus 6-associated encephalitis and Guillain-Barré syndrome in a patient after matched unrelated donor haematopoietic stem cell transplantation
Viral infections are still a serious diagnostic and therapeutic problem in patients undergoing alternative donor transplants. β-Herpesviruses (especially human herpesvirus type 5, 6 and 7) are recognized pathogens in this group of patients and may cause central nervous system disease. Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS) is a very rare complication among stem cell transplant recipients and usually has...
